KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) witnessed an unprecedented moment this week as 67 new officers entered the foreign service on the same day—marking the largest single induction in the ministry’s history.
The officers, who passed the competitive Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations, were formally welcomed on Wednesday at a ceremony led by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. The ministry courtyard filled with new faces—graduates from diverse academic backgrounds—now stepping into one of the country’s most demanding career paths.

“The arrival of the new officers has further strengthened the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Kshetri said. According to him, the intake follows the cabinet’s earlier decision to add over 100 positions to the MoFA through the O&M process, prompting the PSC to announce new vacancies.
Of the 67 officers reporting for duty, 27 are women, marking a notable rise in female representation within the country’s foreign service. The new recruits received their appointment letters and took the oath of office on Monday.
Addressing the welcome ceremony on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Rai congratulated the new officers and urged them to uphold the ministry’s motto of “People First.” He called on them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity while promoting Nepal’s national interest in an increasingly competitive world.
“This is the first time such a large number of officers have joined the foreign service in a single day,” Spokesperson Kshetri said, adding that the ministry’s total workforce—counting missions abroad—has now crossed 375.
Among the new inductees are two brothers, Vijyatara Acharya and Divyadeep Acharya—another first for the ministry. Their father Tara Acharya is himself a retired foreign service official.
