He also said that the prices of petroleum products should be made equal in Nepal and India. State Minister for Commerce and Supplies, Bishnu Prasad Chaudhary said the problem of petroleum products was seen due to lack of price adjustment based on international market price.
Chaudhary further said that the government is doing homework to formulate new policy and to provide relief to the general public along with adjusting the petroleum products´ price as per the international market.
He added the government should bring long-term policy to resolve the problems of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). Spokespersons at the NOC Mukunda Dhungel stated that the NOC has been bearing loss of Rs 3.6 billion in the current fiscal year.
"The government should provide financial assistance regularly or price should be adjusted as per the international market to resolve the problems of NOC," Dhungel said.
Currently, the Indian Oil Corporation has been providing around 800 kilo liters of petroleum products daily only if the NOC pays cash to the IOC. General Secretary of the Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs Federation Hom Prasad Adhikari said the government should bring clear policy to save the NOC and the NOC should be privatized.
