ILAM, Sept 8: The dairy farmers in the district have been hit hard due to the 'milk holiday' effected by the Dairy Development Project, Biratnagar.

The project announced milk holiday on three days a week citing the milk products it has been producing were not getting the market. The project has announced milk holiday on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.Gopal Bahadur Khadka, Chief of the milk chilling centre at Biblyante said that the chilling centre had been collecting 4,500 litres milk a day from different dairy cooperatives. But the project had to go for milk holiday as its products were facing shortage of market, especially after the devastating April 25 earthquake.

Khadka added that problem was also faced in transporting the milk due to the continuous shutdown and general strike.

The project has been collecting 40 thousand to 45 thousand litres of milk daily from seven chilling centres in the Mechi Zone. RSS
