KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Weather across the country, mainly at the central region, is to remain cloudy and chilly weather conditions will set in after two days of intermittent yet mild rainfall.

According to Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), temperature will decrease gradually after two days, leading to winter days ahead."The sun has remained hidden behind the clouds for almost two days now and there is mild rainfall. It's too early to say winter is here but the temperature will decrease gradually," said Samir Shrestha, meteorologist at MFD.

As per the MFD record, temperature in Kathmandu had begun to decline from the last week of September. While the minimum temperature in Kathmandu had lingered at 19 degree Celsius until September 28, the same temperature had declined to 17 degree Celsius on October 4.

MFD's latest weather report indicates Kathmandu temperature remaining stable between 13 and 15 degree Celsius. The report indicates gradual decline of average one to two degree Celsius over the week.

"Cold has already begun to advance in Kathmandu as we can feel it ourselves these days. It's not winter but cold will gradually gain momentum in few days," said Shrestha.

Among 19 weather stations, lowest temperature has been recorded at Jiri with 13 degree Celsius with Okhaldhunga, Taplejung and Dadeldhura in second place with 14 degree Celsius. Temperature in Kathmandu reads 15 degree Celsius while it was over 26 degree Celsius till mid September.

"Traditionally, winter begins in December and now we are experiencing its welcome call. Now it will take only a week or more for the temperature to drop down gradually," said Shrestha.
