KATHMANDU, Nov 22: Microsoft on Thursday officially launched Windows 8 operating system in Nepal.

The operating system will be distributed in Nepal by Thakaral One Computers, the authorized distributor of Microsoft products for Nepal. The price of the operating system, however, has not been fixed yet.

Windows 8 introduces significant changes to the operating system´s platform, with focus on improving user experience on mobile devices such as tablets to rival other mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS, according to a statement.

New features and functionality in Windows 8 include faster startup and the new "hybrid boot" mode, which hibernates the Windows kernel on shutdown to speed up the subsequent boot.

Windows 8 also adds native support for USB 3.0 devices, which allows faster data transfers and improved power management with compatible devices, along with support for near field communication to facilitate sharing and communication between devices, the statement says.

Other changes include renaming of Windows Explorer to File Explorer, while file operation dialogs have been updated to provide more detailed statistics. It also allows file transfers to be paused and better manages conflicts that arise while copying of files, the statement says.
