JHAPA, Oct 11: Twenty-three-olds Sharad Singh and Pushpa Limbu of Damak have come first in the men’s and the women’s category respectively in the ‘Mechinagar Run 2082’, a marathon organized by Youth for Society here today.
The marathon was held in memory of the martyrs of the Gen-Z movement.
In the men’s category, 16-year-old Shiva Karki of Birtamod and Mingsen Limbu of Damak came second and third place respectively. Likwise, in the women’s category, Mandira Mahatara and Rubina Mahatara of Damak came second and third respectively.

The first, the second and third place winner won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively. The race started from Jyamirgadhi and ended at Dhulabari of Mechinagar Municipality.
A total of 164 including 156 male and 18 female young athletes from various parts of Jhapa district participated in the competition, said Jayaram Dahal, a member of the organizers, Youth for Society.
The society has also announced that it will provide a finance assistance of Rs 50,000 to the families of Dinesh Rajbanshi and Gopal Sedhai, who were martyred in the Gen-Z Movement from Jhapa. At the closing ceremony of the competition, Rs 50,000 was handed over to Sapna Rajbanshi, mother of martyr Dinesh Rajbanshi.
Sanjeev Rai, Principal of East Horizon English Secondary School in Dhulabari, expressed his commitment at the same ceremony to bear all the expenses for the education of the Gen-Z martyr family members from Jhapa.
