The handover of properties has hit a snag as the Maoist cadres using the land are reluctant to return the land to their rightful owners. “The government is yet to act on its commitments. We have not been able to use our own land,” said a landowner.
As per the agreement reached earlier, the crops produced in these lands should be equally distributed between the between the landowners and the Maoist cadres. But it is the Maoists who take away the crops.
Refusing to hand over a plot of land, Dhaniram Chaudhary, a Maoist cadre said, “What will we eat if we hand over the land to the owners? We will be left with nothing.”
According to the victims, around 2,800 bighas of lands were seized by the Maoist cadres during the insurgency.
