BAGLUNG, Dec 18: Cadres of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) attacked Minister of Energy Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat during his Baglung on Friday.

The Maoists clashed with police after pelting stones at the vehicle of registration no Ba 1 Jha 1026 used by Mahat during their protest.

Half a dozen Maoists including ANNISU central member Rajiv Ghimire were injured in the clash. Nepal Women Association district secretary Shakuntala Sharma, who went to meet the minister, also sustained injury after being hit by a stone.

Those injured were taken to Dhaulagiri Hospital.

After the incident, Maoists announced indefinite strike in Baglung and closed down market and schools.

Minister Mahat called the incident ‘the wild avatar of the Moiasts’ and said that the Maoists misused the right to protest by making it violent.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress party condemned the attack in a statement released Friday in Kathmandu.

Strongly denouncing and condemning the criminal act of the Maoists, the Party has demanded that the Government take sternest possible action against those involved in the incident, and make proper arrangement for medical treatment of the injured
