KATHMANDU, April 28: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Center), has urged the government to hold meaningful dialogues with teachers protesting peacefully with demands, including the formulation of the School Education Act, and to resolve their issues.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party's Vice Chair and Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota criticized the government for attempting to suppress the street protests that teachers, led by the Nepal Teachers' Association, have been staging for the past 25 days instead of addressing their concerns through dialogue.

"The government's repression of teachers has not only hurt the dignity of the teaching community but also wounded the entire intellectual fraternity. This act reflects not just an extreme level of irresponsible and irrational governance, but also a blatant violation of the Supreme Court's directive to resolve the matter," the statement said.
Vice Chair Sapkota urged the government to seriously initiate honest and meaningful talks with the teachers. He also demanded that the government address the teachers' demands promptly to create an environment for them to return to their classrooms. He wished a speedy recovery to the teachers and journalists seriously injured during the protests.
