Meeting of the Party´s office bearers at party Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal´s residence at Lazimpat also divided responsibilities among top party leaders for the preparation of the upcoming general convention. Despite continuous discussion on the work procedure presented by the organization department of the party, Dahal, Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattrai and another vice- chairman Narayankaji Shrestha were unable to arrive at the consensus on the selection of representatives for the convention.[break]
According to the sources Dahal emphasized on the selection of the representatives by electoral process whereas two Vice-chairman emphasized on nomination process to select representatives. Sources said that the probability of Dahal-lead is high in case of direct electoral process while nominations would favour the two vice-chairpersons.
“In order to minimize the probable dispute and make the general convention a huge success we called the meeting of general convention preparation committee,” said Party Secretary Post Bahadur Bogati. Some leaders are worried that if representatives for the general convention are chosen by the electoral process, some senior and dedicated leaders may be defeated which would be unproductive, he said.
Bogati said Dahal is given the responsibility to prepare political document in order to bring uniformity in the political line. He said, “Earlier agreement was to prepare four political documents but now we decided to make a single document by including several voices.”
He said that Sunday´s meeting ended with three important decisions focusing on general convention and party´s entire transformation. According to him Dahal will take the responsibility of group management and production for the transformation of the party, Vice Chairman Bhattarai will take the responsibility related to development projects and finance department and another Vice-Chairman Shrestha will take the responsibility to look after the disciplinary section.
The meeting also has agreed to strengthen talks and discussions with other political parties in order to wipe out existing political and constitutional crisis, said Bogati.
In the meeting Dahal briefed about his recent meeting with Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. Quoting Dahal, he said that the meeting was fruitful to begin new understanding on the stalled political crisis.
For the meeting of general convention preparation committee, UCPN (Maoist) are supposed to gather in the valley on November 20. Party leaders believe that the meeting would be an important platform to make party more strong to resolve disputes on work procedure that aims to hold the general convention.
