The troupe will be in Bangladesh for 15 days to stage the play in six different places like Dinajpur, Chittagong and Jessore. Directed by Prabin Khatiwada, the play will be showcased first at Rangapur on Monday evening. The last show will be held at the university hall of University of Rajshahi on December 5.
This is the first time a Nepali play will be staging this number of shows in the international arena. Director Khatiwada stated that this was a wonderful opportunity and will also pave ways for other theater artistes.
“It feels as if all the hard work theater artistes have put in without expecting any returns are paying off. This not only provides an opportunity to show the country’s talents in the global stage but also gives immense satisfaction to actors.”
‘Sarjameen’ is based on ‘Paribanda’, a story written by Pushkar Shamsher, which shows how an innocent man is believed to be a criminal. It tells the story of two neighbors who are involved in an altercation. When one is killed, people assume it’s the other man who committed the crime.
Though set in the Rana background, it has been given a contemporary touch in the play. Actors Bijaya Baral, Somnath Khanal, Umesh Tamang, Buddhi Tamang, and Ranjana Oli among others will be performing in ‘Sarjameen’.
