Norvic Hospital at Thapathali said that two German nationals who survived have been admitted there and are in the Intensive Care Unit. “They are not in a position to speak,” said R.P Mainali of the hospital.
According to Dr. Prabin Nepal, who has been involved in the treatment, the Germans are recovering. One has a serious back injury and the other has problems with the hands and other parts of the body. “They are recovering and safe but in a state of shock as the incident must have been really terrifying,” said Nepal.
All eight bodies have been airlifted to Kathmandu. The air service companies involved in the rescue said the rescue work is over and those who are still missing are dead as they were not found during the searches.
“We will go on searching for those missing only if the embassies concerned or their families so request and bear the financial costs .. otherwise it´s completed,” said Rakesh Rana, operations officer at Fishtail Air. “Trained Sherpas and climbers in the search operation returned by helicopter to Kathmandu on Monday evening. There´s no one at the base camp now, all have been rescued and the search team has also arrived back in Kathmandu,” he added.
Five people rescued today and airlifted in the morning have gone to their hotel directly from the airport as they do not have any serious injury.
According to Simrik Air captain Siddhartha Jung Gurung, 11 casualties in the avalanche were confirmed after trekking companies went to the area with a list of those in the trekking expedition. “There are no more casualties and the travel agencies have confirmed this,” said Gurung.
DSP Basanta Kunwar in Gorkha said that the army and police have not reached the site where the casualties occurred, as that needed specially trained personnel. “It´s not possible for ordinary people to get there. Those who went to the rescue have said that all of the living have been rescued, eight dead bodies were recovered and there is no possibility of finding the missing alive,” added Kunwar.
