Man held with Rs 42.5 million and 9 kg gold to be sent to DRI

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: A man arrested with Rs 42.5 million in cash and nearly 9 kilograms of gold will be handed over to the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI).



According to SSP Bishwo Adhikari of Kathmandu Police Range, the case of Binod Kumar Shrestha, 77, of Gorkha, falls under the jurisdiction of the DRI rather than the police.

Police had raided Shrestha’s house in Gongabu, Kathmandu-26, on Tuesday following a tip-off about hidden illegal funds. During the search, they seized Rs 42.5 million in cash, 9.8 kilograms of gold ornaments, and 3.2 kilograms of silver jewelry.


Authorities suspect Shrestha of operating as an illegal moneylender, investing funds against gold collateral.


The confiscated money and precious metals, along with the accused, will be forwarded to the DRI’s Harihar Bhawan office for further investigation.
