BIRENDRANAGAR, Oct 16: A 61-year-old man has been arrested by police on the charge of trafficking a girl to India 24 years ago.
Man arrested on girl trafficking charge after nine years
Bhakta Bahadur Bista, a resident of Chukune Rural Municipality-7, Surkhet, was apprehended by the Area Police Office, Surkhet. According to the investigation, Bista was involved in selling a 21-year-old Lalmaiya Kandel (name changed) to an Indian citizen in Gorakhpur, India, for Rs 15,000 on September 17, 2000.
The case was registered at the District Police Office, Surkhet, under case number 31 during the fiscal year 2000/01, and a warrant was issued on October 29, 2001. Surkhet Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupesh Khadka confirmed that Bista, who had been on the run for 24 years, is now in custody, and further legal action is underway.
