Critically injured Nanu Thapa of Baglung Municipality-1 has been airlifted to Kathmandu by chartered helicopter after referrals by Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital and Dhaulagiri Hospital, according to Shilshila KC, a relative of the woman.
Thapa is now undergoing treatment at Global Hospital at Gwarko."We have airlifted her to the capital as doctors said treatment was not possible in Pokhara," said K.C. She had been rushed to Manipal Hospital following basic treatment at Dhaulagiri Hospital.
According to the doctors, she has suffered over 90 percent burns and she also developed complications.
On Saturday, Kamala Sharma and Lokendra Sharma, tenants living at Thapa's house, had rescued her after she yelled for help at around 11 p.m.
Eyewitness Kamala said, "When we reached there, we found Nanu on fire and she and her husband Santosh were at the bathroom. Then, bringing Santosh out, our teacher Lokendra put water on Nanu's burning body."
Relatives claim that Santosh tried to burn her alive. According to Nanu's mother, Indra Kumari Thapa, the husband had been torturing her mentally since long past.
Santosh came back home from work abroad some three weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Prem Bahadur Basnet, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) at District Police Office (DPO), Baglung said that they are investigating the incident.
"We will dig out the truth behind the incident. We cannot say right now that her husband set her on fire or tried to kill her any other way," DSP Basnet added.
