Maiti Nepal rescued 245 women, children last year

NEPALGUNJ, Oct 3: The regional office of Maiti Nepal here rescued 245 women and children at risk of being trafficked to India and third countries over the last one year.



Three hundred and thirty-two families had registered applications at the Maiti Nepal Regional Office here for helping trace the women and children said to be missing during that period, said Keshav Koirala, regional coordinator of Maiti Nepal. [break]



According to him, a majority of the applicants have stated that their family members have ´gone missing´ in India and the Gulf countries.



The Maiti Nepal Regional Office traced the whereabouts of 31 of the 245 women and children said to be missing and a majority of the missing women were found to have gone for work to the Gulf countries illegally.
