UDMF leaders called on the Indian secretary Jaishankar, who arrived in Kathmandu to attend SAARC secretary-level meeting, at Hotel Dwarika’s.
Chairman of Madhesi People’s Right Forum (Ganatantrik) MPFR (G) Raj Kishor Yadav told Republica Online that in the meeting that lasted for about 50 minutes, Jaishankar queried about UDMF’s agitation, future strategies and talks with the government.
“Jaishankar specially expressed his concerns over talks with the government and future strategies of UDMF,” Yadav told Republica Online, “We apprised him of developments till date.”
On the occasion, Jaishankar told the Madhesi leaders that the Indian PM had suggested Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to find a solution to the stalemate through talks.
“Our PM Narendra Modi told Oli that promulgation of the constitution is a major achievement and suggested him to take all sides into confidence to implement it,” a leader attending the meeting told Republica Online quoting Jaishankar.
UDMF leaders complained the Indian secretary that the government has not taken talks seriously.
Yadav said UDMF leader told Jaishankar that the government is not serious toward demands of Madhes. Madhesi leaders said that they will restart protest in April if they demands are not heeded.
Jaishankar told the Madhesi leaders that he will convey their demands to PM Oli.
Present in the meeting were Parliamentary Party leader of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal (FSF-N) Ashok Rai, Chairman of Tarai Madhes Sadhbhawana Party Mahendra Raya Yadav, Vice-chairman of Sadhbhawana Party Laxmanlal Karna, Chairman of Nepal Sadhbhawana Party Anil Jha, MPRF (G) Chairman Yadav, and Kesha Jha of Tarai Madhes Samajwadi Party.
