Purna Bahadur Sarki, a local of Panchavati VDC-4, stabbed the two teenage girls of the same VDC after one of them reportedly refused the suitor's gifts on the Valentine's Day. The attacker is a tenth grader at Janata Secondary School Bohoribot at Panchavati VDC.The condition of one of the victims, Tul Kumari (name changed), 17, is said to be critical. She is undergoing treatment at Biratnagar following basic treatment at Gaighat-based District Hospital.
There are cuts in nine different parts of Tul Kumari's body including her left breast, abdomen and thigh. According to doctors, she bled excessively after the incident.
The boy had attacked the two girls at around 10 pm while they were sleeping inside their house.
"Purna, all of a sudden, attacked us with a knife," another injured girl Tanka Maya (name changed) said. The boy had entered into her room through a window, the 16-year-old girl informed.
She is now admitted at the emergency ward of the district hospital. She also sustained injuries in her breast, abdomen and thigh.
According to Tanka Maya, the attacker Sarki is her sister Tul Kumari's classmate. He was in one-sided love with her. It has been learnt that after the girl earlier rejected his marriage proposal, he had reportedly made public remarks that he would kill her some day.
On the Valentine's Day, he had tried to give her gifts but she rejected the offer. Following the refusal, the enraged boy had threatened to kill her.
"He used to love my elder sister. It was a one-sided love. He was angry with her after she rejected his marriage proposal. Again, she rejected his Valentine's Day gift," Tanka Maya said. Thereafter, he attacked Tul Kumari at night, according to her.
Following the incident, a neighbor rushed to the rescue and the boy fled the scene.
Police, however, have not made the incident public yet. "The incident wasn't made public fearing that the accused might abscond," the police said. Police have launched a manhunt for Sarki.
