Leading banks to plant trees in Lumbini

KATHMANDU, March 16: Four leading banks have come forward to support the Million tree project in Lumbini. Laxmi Bank, Siddhartha Bank, Bank of Kathmandu and Nabil bank Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the with Lumbini Development Trust (LDT).



As per the MoU, Laxmi Bank will support the plantation of 15,000 saplings. Similarly, Siddhartha Bank and Bank of Kathmandu will support 5000 saplings each, while Nabil will be supporting 1,000 saplings. [break]



Acharya Karma Sangpo Sherpa, Vice Chairperson of LDT said the interest and support of the corporate sector had sent out a positive message. “I look forward to a growing partnership to help implement innovative and integrated conservation initiatives in Lumbini,” he said.



The Green Lumbini Initiative, joint venture of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and LDT hopes to plant 100,000 trees every year, resulting in million trees by the year 2020. The project was launched in 2011 with the plantation of 108,000 trees that year.
