More than 2,000 participants from 63 nations of Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and Australia will take part in the regional ISAAME conference. [break]
"This is the first biggest conference of its kind that is going to be held in Nepal," Sanjay Khetan, Past Council Chairperson and Global Leadership Team Area Leader of Lions Club International, told a press meet held to apprise the media about the ISAAME conference.
Khetan said that as a local organizer they expect cooperation from the government, private sector, tourism sector as well as media to make the conference a success as a large number foreign delegates would come to take part in the conference.
"The conference is a matter of national pride, therefore everyone should work together to make it a success," he added.The Lions Club in Nepal is an important international non-governmental organization working in the social sector.
With 12,000 members of about 500 Lions Clubs in the country, the club has been carrying out different social works that include organization of free eye camps and cataract surgeries, environment protection along with different health related activities. Around 25,000 patients of cataract had got new eyesight, thanks to the Lions Club´s assistance in running free cataract camps across the nation.
Recently, it extended help to the government in carrying out measles-rubella immunization campaign throughout the nation. The club is gearing up to establish a blood bank for which it is in the need of the government assistance.
At the press meet, Khagendra Sitaula, immediate past governor, said that Lions Clubs in Nepal had in the past worked closely with the Nepali media. "Without media our social works would not make good impression among the people, therefore we need to work closely with the media," he said.
