A meeting of the Council held in Chennai, India on Sunday finalized 23 games for the 12th SAG, but excluded karate. Karate was one of the most successful sports that helped Nepal secure second position in the Eighth SAG held in Nepal in 1999. Since then Nepal has always won medals in karate in the SAG.Nevertheless, the meeting included tennis in the SAG. Earlier, 22 events had been decided to be included in the games. The meeting of the Council also decided to include both men's and women's events in all sports. Earlier, a meeting of all representatives of the Council had proposed to exclude women's events in seven sports including boxing, cycling, football, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting and wushu.
These were some of the games that Nepal hoped to bag medals in women's sections .
Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Treasurer Ratan Tandan and National Sports Council (NSC) Member Rajendra Shrestha represented Nepal in the meeting that also declared Assam and Guwahati as the venues for the games.
Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, the outgoing president of NOC, had assured Nepali karate coaches that he will initiate for the inclusion of karate in the 12th SAG.
