RAJBIRAJ, April 30: Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM), one of the several armed outfits operating in Tarai districts, on Saturday decided to lay down arms permanently.

Organizing a press conference, the JTMM Central Chairman Rajiv Jha aka Utkarsha Mukti said they decided to lay down arms once and for ever to take the Madhes ahead in a peaceful way.[break]

“We have decided to lay down arms as we feel that the struggle made through arms will only diminish the value of revolution,” he said.

He said they have renounced armed movement keeping in view the desire of the Madhesi people for “peaceful revolt.”

JTMM led by Jha had had made itself public from Lahan on January 7, 2009 and held formal talks with then Peace and Reconstruction Minister Janardan Sharma the next day. Jha said they will continue talks with the government.

The JTMM held sixth round of talks with the government on February 17, 2010 when Rakam Chemjong was the minister for peace and reconstruction. “We will now never raise arms to kill others. We will take the Madhes movement to its peak through peaceful sit-in protests,” he said.

Jha said that they would forge unity with the forces that are fighting for the liberation of Madhes.

Speaking on the occasion, JTMM Spokesperson Gajendra Mandal said they are ready to make any sacrifice for the cause of Madhes.
