Addressing his supporters, Gupta said that his struggle for federalism will move forward from Tuesday.[break]
Reiterating that he was sent to jail under a conspiracy, he challenged the Supreme Court (SC) to jail those individuals who have been convicted of crimes but are still roaming the country free. “Justice must be acceptable to peoples from both Madhes and Pahad,” he added.

Gupta accused of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) of being agents. “By signing the 11-point deal, the leaders of UDMF have signed their own death warrant,” he argued.
Stating that his struggle is not against the SC or a particular person, Gupta maintained that he would continue his struggle against the unitary system of the county.
The Supreme Court in February last year had convicted Gupta, who was the incumbent information minister, of graft and given him jail.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 8.4 million on Gupta. Gupta was given 20 percent discount in jail term and fine for his timely surrender.

Before the apex court order, the Commission of the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed a case against Gupta, accusing him of accumulating Rs 20.8 million from unknown sources between 1992 and 2002 when he held public offices.
