Journalists injured in NSU protest

KATHMANDU, April 27: The journalists were injured when they were caught between the protesting cadres of Nepal Students Union and police at Chabahil on Tuesday.



Republica photojournalist Bijay Rai, Rajdhani photojournalist Ashok Maharjan and an unidentified journalist was injured after being hit by stones thrown by police, according to eyewitness photojournalist Keshav Thoker.[break]



Police also manhandled photojournalists. The injured journalists are being treated at Medicare Hospital.



Police fired a dozen teargas shells towards the protesting students who disrupted the traffic in the Chabahil area demanding immediate release of arrested students. At least half a dozen students were injured in the clash while police also arrested a few of them.



They also set afire a motorcycle.



Nepal Students Union has announced the Kathmandu Valley banda (strike) on Wednesday.
