He, however, was strongly against separating Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari from Province 1 and including these in Province 2.
"People from Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari don't want to be part of the existing Province 2. And no decision should be taken against the people's interest," Gachchhadar said at an interaction organized by Reporters Club in Kathmandu, Sunday.
He reiterated that the eight-province model that he had been lobbying for since before the promulgation of the new constitution was still the best solution to the prolonged dispute, and that delineating the tarai region into three provinces was the most practical idea.
He termed the agitating Madhesi parties' demand for two provinces in the tarai as impractical and impossible. He described the Madhes-based parties' demand for inclusion of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in Province 2 as radical and rigid.
He accused India of not showing any sympathy toward a close neighbor like Nepal. "Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not show any 'rishiman', or big-heartedness, toward Nepal," he said.
Gachchhadar, who is also chairman of the Madhesi People's Rights Forum-Democractic, further said that most of the demands of the agitating Madhesi parties have already been addressed.
