JC unable to appoint chief judges at high court

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The Judicial Council (JC) headed by Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli on Thursday discussed the issue of appointment of four chief judges and judges at the high courts (HC) but failed to take any decision on the matter.

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The Judicial Council (JC) headed by Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli on Thursday discussed the issue of appointment of four chief judges and judges at the high courts (HC) but failed to take any decision on the matter.



Even though Law Minister Krishna Bahadur Thapa has been lobbying for the appointment of his brother Krisha Bahadur Thapa as a chief judge at an HC and the JC was supposed to discuss the names of the other persons to fulfill the vacant positions, the JC could not take a decision.

Chief Justice Parajuli, Law Minister Thapa, senior Supreme Court justice Deepak Raj Joshee and members Ram Prasad Sitaula and Padam Vaidik attended the discussions but they did not take any decision. 


“Discussions are still going on,” Padam Vaidik, a member of the JC told Republica. According to him, they sat for a few hours in the meeting and discussed the criteria but could not take the decision. He also added that the names of the judges and their seniority issues were discussed during the meeting.
