UML fails to strike deal on Provincial Chief Ministers' election

  

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: CPN-UML has failed to strike deal on the election of Provincial Chief Ministers. A standing committee meeting of the party held on Tuesday decided that those failing to garner full-support will be elected by party parliamentary members of the Province Assembly through the election process.



Delay in hearing has traumatized me: Gangamaya Adhikari


Gangamaya Adhikari, who had started her hunger strike, demanding that perpetrators of her son’s murder are brought to book, has expressed her dissatisfaction over the postponement of the hearing at the District Court, Chitwan.

Former Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission and Economic Expert Dr Shankar Sharma has said that unhealthy competition among the political parties in hiking elderly allowance will have adverse impact on the country’s economy in the long run. “The budget meant for infrastructure development will go to social security allowance, adding further economic burden to the country,” Dr Sharma said.

India defeated Pakistan by 203 runs to reach the final of the ICC Under 19 World Cup on Tuesday. Playing the second semi-final in Christchurch, India chose to bat after winning the toss and determinedly scored run after run despite Pakistani bowlers' persistent attempt at taking wickets, giving Pakistan a target of 272 runs against a nine-wicket loss. 


Pak court rejects Sharif's objections to supplementary case in Panama Papers


An accountability court in Pakistan today rejected ousted premier Nawaz Sharif's objections to the supplementary case filed against him and his family by the country's anti-graft body over properties in London. The court holding trial in graft cases against Sharif and his family decided that the supplementary case would be made part of the record in the Avenfield flats case.
