KATHMANDU, June 14: Kushe rural municipality-9 of Jajarkot has made it mandatory to get a prior recommendation for a marriage.
Officials said the decision was taken to to reduce the cases of child marriage within the municipality. Ward chairman Shiva Raj Giri said, “Considering the increasing cases of child marriage, our ward has requested everyone to take the recommendation from the ward representative before marriage.”
Campaign fails to stop child marriage
Giri further mentioned that when ward representatives provide recommendations for marriage, their actual date of birth will be identified. He also called for support in their efforts to reduce the cases of child marriage.
The ward has been declared a child-friendly ward. Ward chairman Giri said that for the sustainability of Child-Friendly Ward, a rule has been made that young people who have reached the age of marriage must get a recommendation from the ward office. Birth registration and citizenship certificates are necessary to obtain a recommendation for marriage.
