ITAHARI, March 26: Agitated over the delay by a fire engine to reach the site of fire incident, locals of Inaruwa manhandled the driver of a fire engine on Wednesday morning. A major fire that broke out at Phungling Bazaar had gutted down four dozen houses in no matter of time. The fire that raged throughout the night was extinguished only in the morning. The injured fire brigade driver has been identified as Chandra Bahadur Rai of Inaruwa district. The agitated groups also vandalized the fire engine. "Immediately after receiving the information, I headed toward site. But a group nearly 45-50 people suddenly attacked the vehicle. They even thrashed me," said Rai. The fire was brought under control early next morning, after two fire engines from Jhapa and Ilam districts reached the spot. Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel also joined hands with the locals to douse the fire. Meanwhile, a fire broke out at Arihanta Multifibers Industry of Sonapur VDC of Sunsari district. Property worth Rs 1.5 million was destroyed in the inferno.
