Iran jail terms for British couple 'totally unjustifiable': UK govt

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Thursday condemned the sentencing of a UK couple in Iran to 10 years in jail for espionage as "completely appalling and totally unjustifiable".

LONDON, Feb 19: British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Thursday condemned the sentencing of a UK couple in Iran to 10 years in jail for espionage as "completely appalling and totally unjustifiable".



"We will pursue this case relentlessly with the Iranian government until we see Craig and Lindsay Foreman safely returned to the UK and reunited with their family," Cooper said in a statement.

The couple -- both aged in their 50s -- were arrested while travelling through the country on an around-the-world motorcycle journey, their relatives have said, and have consistently denied Tehran's spying claims.
