Investors lost Rs 87 billion from share transaction as NEPSE shed 52.64 points last week

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) lost 52.64 points last week as investors are yet to regain their confidence to inject their money in the share market.


The market opened at 2,734.93 points on Sunday and closed at 2,682.29 points on Thursday. During the review period, the market rose as high as 2,735.67 points while it fell to as low as 2,660.36 points, witnessing a volatility of 75.31 points.


The secondary market with a decline of 45.93 points on Sunday opened for weekday-trading on a negative note. The market fell by 12.84 points and 6.32 points, respectively, for two consecutive days. The index, however, recovered 45.88 points on Wednesday. The market again shedded 33.42 points on Thursday to close for the week.

Only manufacturing and processing added 2.07 percent (138.92 points) and was the single gainer last week. Life insurance lost the largest of 5.95 percent (818.93 points) in its market value. It was followed by hotels and tourism with a decline of 3.31 percent and finance with a decline of 3.22 percent.


Among the individual companies, NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited, enjoyed the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.05 billion during the review period. Life Insurance Corporation Nepal Limited, by shedding 20.96 percent, was recorded as the topmost loser. Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited by adding 13.21 percent in its market price was the largest gainer.


The total turnover amount was recorded at Rs 28.69 billion, a 36.78 percent drop from Rs 45.39 billion in the previous week. The average daily turnover also fell to Rs 5.73 billion from Rs 9.07 billion.


The market capitalization declined to Rs 4.45 trillion from Rs 4.54 trillion, making the investors suffer a loss of Rs 87 billion in their investment portfolio during the review period. In the previous week, the investors lost Rs 20 billion from share trading.
