International Indigenous Film Festival begins today

KATHMANDU, July 11: Organized by Indigenous Film Archive, the 6th Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (NIIFF) is all set to begin form Thursday.

Many national and international filmmakers will be presenting their works at Nepal Tourism Board and Rashtriya Sabhagriha at Bhrikuti Mandap.



For this year’s festival, 79 films and documentaries have been shortlisted from 20 countries, out of which Nepal has 27 films and documentaries.

Films on the Magar, Tharu, Tamang, Newar, Limbu, Rai, Hayu, Sunuwar, and Chepang communities are included in the festival.[break]



Nepal will premiere 17 of its films while 52 films from 19 countries will be shown at the festival.



Films from Australia, Brazil, Tanzania, Colombia, Finland, India, New Zealand, Mexico, Norway, and Switzerland have been selected.

Australian film director Andrew Vial, Indian film director Rita Dutta, and anthropologist Dr. Damber Chemjong will be serving as members of the awards jury for the festival.



There will also be stalls displaying various ethnic foods from communities like Limbu, Magar, Tharu, Newar, Dhimal, Chepang, and Sunuwar.



The 6th Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival is supported by Nepal Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities, Taiwan Indigenous TV, Nepal Film Development Board, and Nepal Tourism Board.



The ticket per show has been kept at Rs 30 each with 50% discount for students.



The festival will open at 10 in the morning and close at 7 pm.
