The world has seen an improvement in women representation in the parliament. According to World Bank data, in 2017, women held 23.65% seats in national parliaments compared to 23.02% in previous year. In fact, in the last three decades, the women representation in parliaments around the world has almost doubled. Rwanda holds the top position, followed by Bolivia and Cuba. Closer home, India too has made a considerable progress from mere 5% women legislators in 1990 to 12% in 2017 but it is still far behind the world average.
