Indian women’s cricket team lifts World Cup trophy for the first time

Before this triumph, India had finished as runners-up in the 2005 and 2017 ODI World Cups, and in the 2020 T20 World Cup.

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The Indian women’s cricket team has won the One Day International (ODI) World Cup for the first time, defeating South Africa in the final held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.



India clinched the historic title with a 52-run victory. Chasing a target of 299 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. South African captain Laura Wolvaardt put up a valiant fight, scoring a century (101 runs).

For India, Deepti Sharma starred with the ball, taking five wickets for 39 runs in 9.3 overs, while Shafali Verma claimed two wickets. Batting first, India posted 298 for seven in 50 overs, with Shafali Verma top-scoring with 87 and Deepti Sharma adding 58.


For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka took three wickets for 58 runs in nine overs.


Before this triumph, India had finished as runners-up in the 2005 and 2017 ODI World Cups, and in the 2020 T20 World Cup.
