KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Heavy rainfall has disrupted traffic on 11 highways and various other road sections across the country.
The Department of Roads issued a notice this morning stating that floods and landslides triggered by rainfall since September 24 have blocked 11 highways and other road sections.
Sections of the Prithvi Highway, including Krishnabhir, Chaukibhir, Jawangkhola and Fisling, are obstructed. As a result, vehicles traveling to Kathmandu from various parts of the country have been affected.
Similarly, sections of the BP Highway, including Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charsayabesi, Katunje and Chaukidanda, are obstructed.
Eight major highways blocked due to incessant rainfall
The Department stated that traffic has been halted both during the day and at night in areas deemed high-risk due to continuous rainfall. Work to clear landslides is underway at various locations.
Traffic on the Kanti Highway has also been partially affected, particularly in sections such as Chapali and Takurche. However, the Department said traffic has resumed in the Makwanpur section after landslides were cleared.
Sections of the Siddhicharan Highway, including the Okhaldhunga-Salleri stretch and the area near Solukhola, are also blocked.
Sections of the Mid-Hill Highway, including the Nisi Rural Municipality-Kanabagar stretch, are blocked. Similarly, the Belbagar section in Jaimini Municipality-8 of the Kaligandaki Corridor is obstructed.
Road disruptions have also been reported along the Baglung-Beni Highway, particularly in areas such as Myadi and Hulake.
According to the Department of Roads, traffic is obstructed along sections of the Tamor Corridor, including Chharuwakhola, Nawakhola and Ranigaun.
The Kapurkot-Kharkhola section of the Rapti Highway is also blocked. On the Karnali Highway, disruptions have been reported at Gagnekhola, the Raka area and near Hare.
In addition, the Bhaluwang-Chakchake-Liwang road section has been obstructed at various points.
