KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The Kathmandu University Professors' Association (KUPA) has taken strong exception to the government for failing to implement the 11-point pact signed with Dr Govinda KC on Wednesday.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the KUPA has urged the government to promptly implement the 11-point deal signed with senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC during his sixth fast-onto-death.

"We deplore the government's negligence in not implementing the 11-point deal signed with Dr KC that has compelled him to stage the hunger strike for the seventh time," reads the statement.

The government had agreed to implement Mathema committee's report in letter and spirit; form a Commission for Medical Education, bring massive overhaul in the appointment system of university office-bearers, probe into irregularities involved in the affiliation of medical colleges, and ensure right candidate in the senate of Kathmandu University.

Dr KC has been staging fast-onto-death for the seventh time after the government dillydallied to implement the deal signed with KC recently.

Dr KC had broken his sixth indefinite hunger strike on September 6 following the 11-point deal with the government.

He resumed his hunger strike five days ago.
