SINDHUPALCHOWK, Sept 17: Around 200 houses are without electricity at Thangpaldhap VDC in Sindhupalchowk after the Hadikhola I Micro-hydro project´s dynamo was hit by lightning on August 24.

The project located in the VDC itself has generation capacity of 34 kilowatts. [break]For the past three weeks, the households in ward number 2, 3 and 4 of the VDC are without power. “Electricity hasn´t been generated after the dynamo was struck by lightning,” Moti Krishna Nagarkoti, coordinator of the project, said.

The project was constructed in 1999 under alternative energy program with assistance from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the cost of around four million rupees.

The ownership of the project was handed to locals after construction. Locals have been responsible for its maintenance, renovation, distribution, and management.

Nagarkoti said that it will cost around Rs 4 00,000 rupees to replace the dynamo. “We don´t have the money and we cannot collect that much through donations from consumers,” Nagarkoti said.
