The College Ambassadors have been in the field of media for around three years now, arming them with oodles of confidence that they admit worked in their favor. Process, an ACCA student also works as a radio jockey in Times FM while Khushboo, studying Bachelor’s in Social Work at St Xavier’s College, has worked as a radio jockey at Star FM and hosted a program, ‘Party Central’ at Image Channel.[break]
Why did you decide to participate in College Ambassador 2012? Were you confident of winning the title?
Khushboo: To be honest, I participated because I needed a title. Let me explain. I’ve been a part of the media for more than two years now. I know I’m good at my job. Yet, I can never demand a good paycheck for a job well done. I work as an emcee too, and I love communicating and interacting with people. Sometimes, it does get a bit disheartening and then I realize that a title really opens up doors. People start taking you seriously.
Process: I would like to start by saying that this is not a beauty pageant. College Ambassador focuses on talent, they are looking for people who can be representatives of all college students. I always knew I had it in me to achieve a lot. My objective was to explore my capabilities and hone my skills. And this competition seemed just the right kind for me. When I entered I was pretty confident, but the competition was really tough.
Khushboo: Yes, the competition was tough this year. There was something really good in each participant. If one was very good in public speaking, the other was really talented and someone else was beautiful and could carry herself very well. Since all these things matter, it was hard to be absolutely sure of winning.
As you both are in the media, what challenges do you think exist in the industry today?
Khushboo: I’ve been a radio jockey, I’ve emceed in many different programs, I have experience working in a late night show and I’m part of an event management company. That way my experience is pretty diverse. I love communication and I see myself in this field for a very long time. But like I mentioned above, I understand that a title gives you so much leverage. Someone with a title will always be preferred. I love my job, I’m good at it, I work hard, yet there was always something missing. I’m hopeful things will be better now.
Process: It’s hard to sustain oneself just as a media personality. That is a big challenge in itself.
Share some of your short term and long term plans with us.
Process: I have a deep interest in music. I was in a band for two years and that’s also one of the reasons I joined the FM industry. During our talent round, both Khushboo and I sang songs. I had prepared a song from scratch for the talent round, from the lyrics to the composition. My short term plan is to write another song which we will sing together. I’m also involved with a foundation called Swift Turn. There are countless young graduates in the country yet there is no guarantee that we will sell equally in the job market. The education system of Nepal needs a great many changes. So what we are trying to do through Swift Turn is polish the graduates. We will provide trainings that will sharpen their skills.
My long term plan is to see myself as a businessman and be able to motivate thousands of young people.
Khushboo: I have a hunger for more achievements. I want to be an extremely good communicator. I’m a student of social work, and I’m in the media field. So I want to combine these two factors together in my life. Organizing events where people are guaranteed to have fun, and then donating the money to a good social institution.
