Host LA emerges as team champion

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Host Little Angels School (LA) emerged as champion of the Fifth LA/JTI Inter School Open Junior Tennis Tournament. LA accumulated 900 points to lift the team trophy during the closing ceremony on Thursday.



Rato Bangala remained in the second position with 655 points and St Xavier´s finished third with 355 points in the tournament organized in coordination with All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association.[break]



Meanwhile, Tara Man Gurung of Sagarmatha Higher Secondary school won the title of U-18 boys´ singles. Gurung defeated Pranjal Kayastha of Ullens 7-5, 6-2 in the final played at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Lalitpur on Thursday.



Asian Games participant Aslesha Lissanevitch clinched gold medal in U-16 girls´ singles. British School student Lissanevitch eased past Bibhuti Karki of St Xavier´s 6-2, 6-0.



Avaya Gauchan of Rato Bangala pulled a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sudarshan Sigdel of Gandaki Boarding School in the final of U-14 boys´ singles while Bijisha Shrestha of DAV beat Mayanka Rana of Rupy´s School 8-2 in the final of U-1 girls´ singles.



Samrakshan Bhusan Bajracharya struggled against Saksham Karki of Rato Bangala in the final of U-12 boys´ singles but managed to win 7-4 in a tiebreaker.



Bijisha Shrestha and Avaya Gauchan were adjudged Nike Lucky Player for Wednesday and Thursday respectively and received gift hampers of Rs 5000 each.



All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association President Manoj Rana, Vice-president Jyoti Rana and Founder Principal of the host LA School Umesh Shrestha gave away the prizes to the winners.
