KATHMANDU, OCT 4: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has directed Chief District Officers (CDOs) and heads of relevant security agencies to remain on standby in their respective offices around the clock in districts prone to natural disasters caused by ongoing heavy rainfall.
Citing adverse weather conditions, the MoHA has issued a notice urging concerned government agencies to remain on high alert. Several locations across multiple districts are now at risk of floods, landslides, and inundation due to the persistent rains.
Home Ministry transfers 44 CDOs
The ministry has sent letters to all CDOs, instructing them to actively participate in disaster management. They have also been directed to facilitate the movement of vehicles stranded on highways based on road and weather conditions and to coordinate with local authorities and organisations to provide food and water for passengers as needed.
Considering the situation, the MoHA has further instructed agencies to assist ambulances stranded on highways to reach their destinations safely. It has also urged the public to give priority to pregnant women stranded on the road and ensure they are transported to the nearest birthing centre without delay.
The government has also urged the concerned agencies to make necessary arrangements to relocate individuals and families living in flood and landslide-prone areas to nearby schools and open spaces in coordination with the local municipality.
