KATHMANDU, May 20: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed authorities to promptly dispatch relief materials to families displaced by a landslide in Tilgaun village of Namkha Rural Municipality–6, Humla.
A meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday decided to immediately provide tarpaulins, food, and other essential supplies to those affected. Minister Lekhak instructed that relief items be sent via helicopter and that a technical team be deployed for on-site assessment.

He emphasized the need to ensure proper food and shelter arrangements for the displaced, and asked the technical team to conduct a field study and submit a detailed report. The home minister also instructed subordinate agencies to coordinate with the Karnali Province government for effective relief and assessment efforts.
The landslide, triggered by a glacial lake outburst in the remote area of Humla, has displaced 32 residents. Stressing the importance of preparedness ahead of the pre-monsoon season, Minister Lekhak called for early coordination for disaster response. He also directed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to consult with security committees across all seven provinces and 77 districts to step up preparedness measures.
In addition, the minister urged coordination with private organizations to mobilize their resources and capacities in disaster response.
Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi, who also attended the meeting, underlined the urgency of prioritizing immediate relief distribution. Highlighting the growing threats posed by climate change, he noted the heightened vulnerability of the Himalayan region. The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, chiefs of security agencies, and senior officials from various concerned institutions.
