Home Minister Gurung refuses traditional ‘Pirka salami’ in official programs

KATHMANDU, April 12: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has decided not to accept the traditional ‘Pirka Salami’ given during official state functions.



The decision was made during his inspection visit to the Armed Police Force office in Nawalpur, where he stated that he would no longer participate in the customary practice of receiving salami (salute) while standing on an elevated wooden platform.

During the visit, he was welcomed by DSP Laxman Baral of the Armed Police Force. The Home Minister was on an inspection tour of various security agencies.


On the occasion, Gurung emphasized the need to reform traditional ceremonial practices within security institutions and said he would not stand on a ‘pirka’ to receive salami.


The inspection program was attended by Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Rana of Nawalpur, Superintendent of Police Yuvaraj Khadka of the District Police Office, and SP Abhiyan Kumar Singh of the National Investigation Department, along with other security officials.
