KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Monday conducted an on-site inspection of the Gauriphanta border point on the Nepal–India frontier in Kailali and Kanchanpur.

Minister Aryal arrived in Dhangadhi earlier in the day for the Sudurpaschim Province–level security conference scheduled to begin Tuesday. During the inspection, Minister Aryal instructed authorities to further tighten measures against revenue leakage through Gauriphanta and other illegal crossing points. He directed customs and security agency chiefs to identify groups involved in systematically smuggling goods under the guise of daily livelihood needs and to enhance surveillance — while ensuring smooth and dignified mobility for Nepali citizens, especially women relying on cross-border movement for daily living.

At Gauriphanta, the minister also held brief talks with officers of India’s Border Security Force (BSF). He expressed concern over the illegal trafficking of Nepali girls and women across the border and discussed ongoing efforts to curb such activities.

Later the same day, Minister Aryal inspected the site of the planned dry port at Chandani-Dodhara in Kanchanpur. He spoke with the contractor company and local residents about the recurring problems caused by floods and inundation in the border region.
