KATHMANDU, Sept 23: A meeting of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) has requested the government to bring an ordinance bill concerning the removal of constitutional difficulties to pave the way for the deployment of the Nepal Army (NA) during the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections slated for November 19.

A meeting held at HLPC Secretariat at New Baneshwor on Monday decided to this effect after President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday suggested the Chairman of the Interim Election Government Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi to initiate the process of amending the interim constitution to pave the way for the army mobilization during CA poll.[break]

The provision of Article 145(5) of the Interim Constitution bars the government to deploy the NA in CA polls without prior approval from the parliament.

Last week, the government had recommended the President Yadav to endorse the proposal to mobilize the NA in the CA elections.

A cabinet meeting has been scheduled for this afternoon to discuss and forward an ordinance bill to president to this effect.

Meanwhile, the HLPC meeting also urged the dissenting parties, who have been protesting against the government decision to hold election, to take part in the November 19 elections giving up their all the protest programs.
