A cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to review the plan after detail discussion on deteriorating security situation in the country. Most cabinet members expressed worries about killing of media entrepreneurs and others in different parts of the country. [break]
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel, who is also government spokesperson, said the meeting has taken the recent killings seriously.
"The meeting has decided to review the special security plan and also hold meetings with stakeholders concerned to get their suggestions for the improvement of overall security situation," he said.
Pokharel said the plan will be made more effective to contain criminal incidents unleashed by various groups.
The decision comes two days after the killing of media entrepreneur Arun Singhaniya, the publisher of Janakpur Today daily and chairman of Radio Today FM, in Janakpur.
Law Minister Prem Bahadur Singh said the meeting largely dwelt on the warning of business entrepreneurs to halt operations if the security situation did not improve within a month.
Talking briefly to media persons after the meeting, Home Minister Bhim Rawal said they are reviewing the shortcomings and loopholes of the plan. "We will decide what more elements need to be included in the security plan after organizing meetings with stakeholders concerned," he added.
Wednesday´s cabinet meeting decided to form a Government Expenditure and Review Commission, set up a Commerce Bench in Hetauda and adjust the class of class-less employees serving under the Ministry for Forests and Soil Conservation.
The meeting also decided to grant land in Shantinagar area in Kathmandu as demanded by various media related organizations to establish a media center.
