The Board on Sunday forwarded the names of Dev Chandra Lal Karna, a director at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal; Madan Kharel, an NAC director; and Rajeev Thapa, management and finance expert with 17 years of experience in various companies in the US, Canada and Pakistan, to the government for final approval. The government will now choose one name from the list and put him at the helm of the company.
Although the government had called on candidates to apply for the post of general manager at NAC couple of months ago, it had put the shortlisting process on hold till date due to presence of executive chairman at the state-owned airline.
Since the company´s constitution gives executive chairman the right to overtake responsibilities of the general manager, the post of general manager often used to come under shadow leaving the person without any right to head the management and take decisions.
This provision had triggered a long-running conflict and court battles between KB Limbu, the then NAC general manager who was sacked, and Sugat Ratna Kansakar, who was later appointed executive chairman of the company.
Following Kansakar´s departure, the government had filled the position of executive chairman at the company by appointing Manarup Shahi. But after Shahi left the company no one has filled the post which gives freedom to the newly appointed general manager to lead the company on his own.
