Speaking at Reporter's Club in the capital on Tuesday, Minister Thapa said that the government has stepped up its effort to resolve the ongoing crisis just before Dashain to give a sense of relief to the public.He said that resolving the ongoing crisis is the topmost priority of the new government as the general public is at the receiving end ahead of the major festival.
"I assure public that things will return to normalcy within few days," reiterated Thapa.
Explaining how the new government is working to resolve the crisis, the deputy prime minister said that the government has started initiative to hold talks with all the Madhesi parties that have been staging protests and creating obstructions along the Nepal-India border checkpoints.
Similarly, the government has started its diplomatic efforts to resume supply of essential goods in the country at the earliest following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's greetings to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in a telephone conversation, said Thapa.
"We have started preparations to resolve the ongoing problem of short-supply of daily essential goods with short-term, mid-term and long-term approaches," he said.
Thapa said that he will work to take ties with India and China to a new height. Talking about his priorities during his tenure as the foreign minister, Thapa said that he will focus on economic diplomacy and strict implementation of diplomatic code of conduct as leaders not following the code have sometimes seriously affected relations with friendly countries.
