Govt claims deadlock ends, country moves toward elections

He has also said the government is committed to holding elections by fulfilling the genuine demands of Gen-Z people.

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The government has claimed that the prolonged deadlock among political forces has ended, and the country is now moving toward elections.

The claim comes after a meeting between the interim government and political parties held on Friday at the initiative of President Ram Chandra Paudel. The meeting was convened to discuss the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

Despite the announcement of the election date, the interim government—particularly Prime Minister Sushila Karki—had been criticized for failing to coordinate with political parties, raising doubts about the election’s prospects. In response, President Paudel took the initiative to end the lack of dialogue among key stakeholders.

Following the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Information, Technology, and Communication Jagdish Kharel said that the country has now moved onto the path toward elections.

“The government is proceeding toward holding elections while addressing key demands of the Gen Z movement,” Minister Kharel said. “Political parties are also willing to participate in the election, which has created a favorable atmosphere.” He added that the Election Commission has already begun preparing the election schedule.

Kharel also claimed that the morale of security forces remains high. “The security agencies have made it clear that their morale has not declined,” he said.

He further stated that with the conducive environment created by the President, elections have become certain. “Now that the president, the government, and political parties have built a common understanding, and the security forces are prepared with high morale, the country has moved toward elections and the deadlock has ended,” Kharel said. “Dialogue has resumed, and the nation, the people, political parties, and even the Gen Z movement are all moving together toward the election.”

He has also said the government is committed to holding elections by fulfilling the genuine demands of Gen-Z people.
