KATHMANDU, July 23: The government has decided to form a judicial inquiry committee to investigate the self-immolation death of Ganesh Nepali.
A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday appointed former High Court judge Keshav Prasad Bastola to head the inquiry committee.
The Cabinet also decided to fully waive the Education Equity Fee and the Health Equity Fee imposed under Section 18(1) of the Economic Act, 2026 BS.
Heed the medical students
Among other key decisions, the government appointed High Court Tulsipur judge Basudev Acharya as chairperson of the Special Court and High Court Surkhet judge Dipendra Adhikari as chairperson of the Labour Court.
Shailendra Raj Kunwar was appointed administrator of the Guthi Sansthan.
The Cabinet also approved a full waiver of parking, landing and navigation fees, along with a 50 percent discount on ground handling charges, for scheduled international flights operating from Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport until mid-September 2028.
In another decision, the government endorsed the agreement reached on July 17, 2026, between the committee formed to address the grievances of loan-sharking (meter-byaj) victims and representatives of the Meter-Byaj Victims’ Farmers and Workers’ Movement. Under the agreement, documents found to have been fraudulently obtained through usurious lending practices have been declared invalid with immediate effect.
