The new criterion of the facilities to be provided to former VIPs published recently in Nepal Gazette has made a provision of various facilities including residential apartment, vehicle, fuel expenses and employees for their personal secretariat to former presidents, vice presidents and prime ministers. [break]They will each receive Rs 50,000 a month as apartment allowance until the government provides them with a residential building.
According to the new arrangement, the former presidents, vice presidents, prime ministers, chief justices and speakers will get a vehicle worth Rs 5 million and Rs 50,000 a year as maintenance cost for the vehicle. Former presidents, vice presidents, prime ministers and former chief justices and speakers are also entitled to get 200, 175, 150 and 100 liter petrol a month, respectively.
Likewise, the government has made a provision to separately allocate Rs 50,000 a year each to former president and vice president and Rs 40,000 a year to former prime minister as expense for hospitality. Additionally, the government will provide four employees including one gazetted third class officer for the personal secretariat of the former president and two employees including one third-class gazetted officer each for the personal secretariat of former vice president and prime minister.
Likewise, former chief justices and former speakers are entitled to receive Rs 40,000 each a year for hospitality and one non-gazetted first class employee for their personal secretariat.
There are six surviving former prime ministers, 17 chief justices, four former speakers and 17 former home ministers.
The new criterion has made a provision to provide various facilities to former home minister and persons deemed as VIPs by the government. The former home ministers and VIPs are entitled to receive a vehicle worth Rs 3.5 million and Rs 30,000 a year as vehicle maintenance expense a year.
Though the former VIPs are entitled to receive Rs 20,000 a month as apartment allowances, the former chief justices and former home ministers will not receive apartment facilities as per the new criterion.
